Modern American and Custom Furniture

Chattel and Strut of San Francisco designs and manufactures modern American furniture.  Our collections and our custom furniture are crafted with hand-picked materials, designed with modern aesthetics, and made in the San Francisco Bay Area. Chattel and Strut creates each piece with reclaimed components wherever possible, celebrating the history and beauty of age. We can also create bespoke and custom furniture items for your home, as well as tailor our collection to your needs.

Established in 2012, Chattel and Strut became a new modern American furniture and custom furniture company. Specifically, we blend old, reclaimed materials with a modern American aesthetic. You find that aesthetic in old copper stills used to make craft bourbon in Kentucky. You find it in the webbing of a baseball mitt stitched together in Texas. You find it in the heft and the seasoning of a cast iron skillet forged in Tennessee. By reusing wood and fabric in our custom furniture and our collection, we aren’t just generating more stuff, we are sustaining a tradition of American craft and evolving the future of American design.

Our bespoke furniture will enhance your space with collaborative design. Individual attention is given to each client to insure an unparalleled level of detail is achieved. With custom furniture, budget is important. Chattel and Strut works within your budget, offering choices, but never compromising quality. All of our furniture is heirloom quality and handmade in the USA.

Our first line, Heritage, is due out in 2013, and will be fully customizable to suit your aesthetics and needs. It will mimic the craft of custom furniture without the price tag of custom furniture. Small details like double top-stitching, angled bolsters, and mixed materials anchor the collection together and bring the worn and rustic to tailored and modern. This is the new American furniture.
